According to the Daily Mail, Sheffield United are considering launching a bid to sign Joe Hart, in case they fail to agree a deal with Manchester United for Dean Henderson. The Manchester United goalkeeper spent last season on loan with the Blades, and Chris Wilder is keen to bring the 22-year-old back to Bramall Lane.
However, the newly-promoted club are yet to reach an agreement with the Red Devils over Henderson. With the transfer deadline drawing ever nearer, Wilder may now need to pursue alternative goalkeeping options.
Hart is certainly available this summer. According to the Mirror, Burnley would even be willing to let the 32-year-old leave on a free transfer. Wilder will be aware of this, and Hart should very much be on his radar.
The Burnley ‘keeper’s career is currently on the rocks. Since losing the No. 1 spot with Manchester City, the 75-cap England international has endured woeful loan spells with Torino and West Ham United. He has also lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s England setup. He briefly revived his career at Turf Moor last season, but now finds himself behind Nick Pope and Tom Heaton in the pecking order.
However, he would still be a great, affordable signing for the Blades. If they can’t secure the return of Henderson, then Hart would bring plenty of top-flight experience to Wilder’s squad. The two-time Premier League winner would also arrive at Bramall Lane with a point to prove.
