Sheffield United hope to sign a new midfielder by the end of the weekend. According to The Sun, Sheffield United will launch a £4m bid for Queens Park Rangers star Luke Freeman.

And the Blades are hoping to finalise this deal within the next 48 hours. Chris Wilder wants to move quickly and get this one over the line before the end of the weekend.

Sheffield United were promoted to the Premier League in 2018/19 and Wilder wants to add quality to his ranks. Freeman has been identified as a top target.

The left-footed playmaker operates in midfield and has impressed for QPR. Last season, he stood out, scoring nine and assisting eight in a mediocre campaign for the West London outfit.

This took Freeman’s total tally to 16 goals and 25 assists for QPR. The former Stevenage, Arsenal and Bristol City player now has 18 goals and 29 assists in the Championship.

But he is ready to test himself at Premier League level. The 27-year-old reportedly wants to complete a move to Sheffield United.

TBR’s view

Freeman is an exciting talent and he has been the standout performer for QPR over the last two years. But he needs to challenge himself at the top level at a crucial time in his career.

The former England youth international has plied his trade in the lower leagues for long enough and could now get his chance. Wilder will hope that Freeman’s creativity can help unlock defences in the top-flight to keep Sheffield United away from the drop zone.
