West Ham United are wary of increasing their bid for Josh King, with Football London reporting that the Hammers are concerned about his potential sell-on value further down the line.

The Hammers are looking set for a busy few days. As noted by Football London, they are working on deals for Said Benrahma and Craig Dawson.

And while it appears that they are making progress in those pursuits, they are still awaiting a breakthrough as they chase Bournemouth striker King.

Football London reports that the Irons have had a bid for the Norwegian rejected. It was suggested by the Guardian over the weekend that the offer was worth £13 million.

It remains to be seen if they return with an improved bid. Football London suggests that the Cherries want £18 million for the 28-year-old.

But perhaps, it should not be a surprise if West Ham’s next offer – should one be made – still does not meet Bournemouth’s asking price.

Football London also notes that the Hammers are wary of paying too much for King. The board are apparently concerned about recouping a similar fee should he leave the London Stadium further down the line.

TBR View: West Ham stance perplexing when £5 million away from asking price

King is not a youngster. He turns 29 in January. So it is understandable that a club may have concerns about paying £18 million for him.

However, West Ham have reportedly already put £13 million on the table. So they obviously feel fairly confident that he could be a shrewd signing for David Moyes’s men.

Having come this far therefore, it would surely be an odd move to walk away over £5 million simply because they are not sure if he will net them as large a transfer fee should he leave in the future.
