West Ham have told Manchester United that they will not consider allowing Declan Rice to move in the opposite direction as the Hammers look to sign Jesse Lingard permanently, according to The Sun.

Unsurprisingly, the Irons are keen to sign Lingard this summer. The 28-year-old has stunned many by scoring six and providing three assists since arriving on loan.

It appears that his parent club are open to letting him go – but they would ideally like a swap deal that sees Rice move to Old Trafford with West Ham also receiving a fee.

However, West Ham have no interest in such a deal. And The Sun claims that they have informed Manchester United that they can forget about offering Lingard as part of a bid for Rice.

TBR View: West Ham right to prioritise keeping Rice

Keeping Lingard would be a fantastic move for David Moyes’s men. However, West Ham’s priority has to be ensuring that Rice goes nowhere.

It is frightening to think how good the 22-year-old could become. And with the Hammers moving in the right direction, they will hope that they can match his ambitions in the next few years.

Manchester United would be wise to hold talks about selling Lingard if he is not in contention to return to their plans next season.

But if Rice moving the other way is any kind of deal-breaker for Lingard’s parent club, West Ham should not hesitate to back away.
