Mesut Ozil has told friends that he is only looking at future moves to Major League Soccer or Turkey, but The Sun adds that he is only willing to leave Arsenal next summer.
Ozil’s future seems to have been a talking point for almost as long as the midfielder has been in England.
The 31-year-old has not played for Mikel Arteta’s side since the season’s resumption. And The Sun reports that the Arsenal hierarchy would prefer to move Ozil on this summer.
However, it is also noted by The Sun that Ozil wants to see out the remaining year of his £350,000-a-week contract.
He has also reportedly told friends that he only wants to join a club in America or Turkey next summer.
TBR View: Blow for Arsenal’s summer plans
It would arguably not be a huge surprise if Arteta felt some frustration at the prospect of having Ozil in his ranks for next season.
He has struggled to make a significant contribution this season – he has scored one goal and contributed two assists in 18 Premier League appearances – and Arteta has shown that he is prepared to leave him on the periphery of his plans.
It would therefore, be a big boost to sell him and get him off the wage bill. That £350,000-a-week could arguably make a big difference to the Gunners, whether it helps them sign key men currently at the club down to new contracts, or gives them more firepower in the transfer market.
But, as things stand, it looks unlikely that that money will be available to Arteta in the coming months.
