After an incredible loan spell at West Ham last season, many expected Jesse Lingard to leave Manchester United for east London.
Now, 90min have revealed why that didn’t happen.
What’s the story?
Well, according to 90min, Lingard personally told David Sullivan that he didn’t want to join West Ham on a permanent basis.
That is why the Irons never made a late push for the 28-year-old, and instead wrapped up the £34.5m signing of Nikola Vlasic.
90min believe West Ham did approach the Red Devils about a deal earlier in the summer, although Lingard’s revelation changed their plans.
The Hammers certainly had the funds to bring the 30-cap England international to the London Stadium.
90min claim that Vlasic will earn over £100,000-a-week, so Lingard’s salary wouldn’t have been an issue for West Ham.
Jesse Lingard is crazy to turn down West Ham move

In our view, Lingard should’ve joined West Ham permanently.
He clearly fit in well under David Moyes, and suited the Scot’s system to perfection having scored nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances.
Lingard also provided five assists in that time.
Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, it feels unlikely that the attacking midfielder will hit such heights again.

Why? Well, Solskjaer has added Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo to his attack this summer, two of Europe’s best forwards.
Competing with a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and a £73m forward isn’t ideal for Lingard, and he surely won’t start ahead of them.
For the sake of his career, Lingard should’ve chose West Ham.
