Bruno Guimaraes was seen in the 84th minute of Newcastle United’s win over Everton on Tuesday staring at the clock and struggling to hide his frustration at the prospect of missing out on making his Magpies debut, according to a report from The Athletic.

Eddie Howe’s men have given their survival hopes a huge boost. The Magpies beat the Toffees 3-1 at St James’ Park on what could be looked back upon as a famous night on Tyneside.

Newcastle are now out of the bottom three. But it was also a notable occasion for a couple of other reasons with Matt Targett and Guimaraes named in the match-day squad for the first time.

Targett started, but the Brazilian was initially named on the bench. Of course, supporters may have felt that his introduction was inevitable at some stage.

However, the game reached stoppage-time at the end of the second-half with the 24-year-old still on the bench.

The decision to hold off on his bow may have frustrated many of the fans. And it would appear that Guimaraes was getting just as annoyed as the final moments loomed.

The Athletic reports that Guimaraes was seen in the 84th minute watching the clock. It is also claimed that he opened his arms in frustration. He had spent the large majority of the second-half warming up.

Thankfully, he did come on just before the final whistle.

It looked to be a huge coup for Newcastle to sign Guimaraes. His record with Lyon was outstanding. So it is no surprise that he looks to be a fan favourite already.

He is one of those players Howe will build the side around as they presumably push up the table. He unquestionably has the ability to be a major upgrade on the options they already had.

And that passion will only endear him to supporters further. He is not going to be a player whose desire can be questioned judging by his desperation just to get on on Tuesday night.
