Arsenal have informed Brentford that they have no interest in selling Folarin Balogun this month, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Gunners have rejected a bid for the striker.
Balogun is awaiting the chance to make his first-team debut for the first-team. But he has caught the eye with the club’s under-23s.
The 18-year-old has been directly involved in 11 goals in 12 Premier League 2 games this season. He has contributed four assists and scored seven times.
His form attracted the attention of the Championship promotion-chasers. The Daily Mail reported that the Bees made a £5 million bid for the teenager.
However, the report noted that the offer was rejected last week.
And the Daily Mail is suggesting that Arsenal have told Brentford that they are not interested in selling the youngster. It is suggested that Thomas Frank’s men have now switched their attention to Charlton’s Lyle Taylor.
TBR View – Arsenal make statement with stance
It was arguably a big statement that Brentford were willing to make a £5 million bid. The second tier side seem to get very little wrong in the transfer market so it says a lot that they were willing to make such an offer for a prospect still awaiting their first-team debut.
But Arsenal’s stance is just as significant. It will not be easy for Balogun to break through at the Emirates given the quality ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, Arsenal must feel that he has the potential to make the grade or be worth a lot more in the future.
It certainly appears that Brentford earmarked him as one for the future. Sadly for him, so have Arsenal it seems.
