Report shares what Alexander-Arnold told Klopp after England snub
A report from The Telegraph has shared what Trent Alexander-Arnold told Jurgen Klopp immediately after the Liverpool right-back was told that he would not be in the last England squad.
It has been an interesting season for Alexander-Arnold. The 22-year-old had established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world in recent years.
However, there had been times when he had really struggled this term. And that situation seemed to culminate with Gareth Southgate taking the surprise decision to leave him out of the England squad for the most recent break.
At the time, it seemed to be a worrying statement about Alexander-Arnold’s form. But it appears that the youngster did not let the call get him down for long.
According to The Telegraph, the Reds starlet called Klopp immediately after finding out that he had been left out of Southgate’s plans. And remarkably, he told the Liverpool boss that he wanted to be considered for a behind-closed-doors training match that he would have missed had he been on international duty.
After such a difficult time, Alexander-Arnold would have been forgiven for feeling sorry for himself. However, he clearly did not let that setback get to him and switched his focus immediately.
So it is little surprise that Alexander-Arnold has silenced his critics so emphatically of late. He has been one of Liverpool’s best players over the last few weeks.
It would now be a huge gamble for Southgate to leave Alexander-Arnold out of his squad once again this summer.
England do have a lot of options at right-back. But the Liverpool man is playing superbly. And given the outrageous amount of quality he possesses, it would be baffling if he was not involved this summer.
