Ademola Lookman is believed to have told his agent that he would like to join Newcastle United, with The Telegraph reporting that the Magpies are in the driving seat to sign the RB Leipzig attacker.

Lookman has not had the best time since leaving Everton for Germany in the summer. He has made just three appearances in the Bundesliga, and has not featured since October.

The Telegraph reports that a January move could be on the cards. And it appears that Newcastle are in pole position to sign the 22-year-old.

According to The Telegraph, the two clubs are discussing a loan fee and an option to buy Lookman at the end of his loan spell. It is suggested that Leipzig will want to recoup the £22 million that they spent on Lookman, while Newcastle are keen for the loan fee to be knocked off the future asking price.

While it appears that there is still some way to go, Newcastle do seem to have received a major boost in their pursuit.

The Telegraph reports that Lookman has told his agent that he is keen to make the move to St James’ Park.

TBR View – Lookman could be a seriously exciting signing

It is somewhat surprising that Lookman has struggled since moving to Germany permanently. During his loan spell – where, admittedly, he was working under a different manager – he scored five goals and contributed three assists in just 11 games.

And there were glimpses of his potential while at Everton. It may be a gamble to agree to make the move permanent in the summer. But a loan with an option to buy could be inspired from the Magpies.

Lookman has a real point to prove. And that may bring the best out of the youngster. If Bruce can unlock Lookman’s full potential, signing him could prove to be a real masterstroke.
