Rarely seen Arsenal defender is about to come back into the picture, with a new report claiming he is ready to resume full training.

The Spaniard suffered ankle ligament damage against Manchester City last term, causing him to miss the club’s last nine games of the 2019/20, as well as the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

The injury has meant he has only made three first-team appearances for the club since joining on loan in January, with the move being made permanent for a reported £14 million in the summer (Daily Mail).

Mari required surgery for the injury, but he appears to be on the verge of a return at last, with football.london claiming he will partake in full training ‘within the next week or so’.

Recently the 27-year-old has just been doing light ball work, strengthening activities and other things away from the rest of the group.

The report states the Manchester City game on October 17 will likely come too soon, but that he could make an appearance against Rapid Vienna on October 22.

TBR’s View – Mari must put early struggles behind him

With the club having bought Gabriel Magalhaes, it will be important for Mari to work hard to put himself back in contention for the starting XI.

It’s been a pretty frustrating start to life in north London for him, and the pressure is actually on for him given the club jumped at the chance to sign him permanently.

His chance will come, and he must seize it with both hands when it eventually does.
