Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to keep Harry Kane this summer may have previously not looked like the smartest decision, but it appears that it has helped the club finally secure the signature of Antonio Conte – according to a report from The Telegraph.

Conte is on the verge of becoming the new Spurs boss. In fact, The Telegraph reports that he has agreed a £20 million deal to succeed Nuno Espirito Santo.

It is a huge statement from Tottenham. It had appeared that the club were in big trouble with Nuno’s doubters growing louder and louder.

Of course, the Portuguese was not helped by the fact that it was abundantly clear from day one that he was never first-choice.

One of those to reject the club before Nuno was appointed was Conte. However, The Telegraph reports that he is now set to take the job at the second time of asking.

The report notes that he has remained on good terms with those in North London. He previously worked with Fabio Paratici at Juventus.

And The Telegraph claims that Conte was left impressed by Tottenham holding onto Kane during the summer amid all of the speculation surrounding his future.

Conte can recreate devastating Inter partnership at Tottenham with Kane and Son

Conte, of course, arrives as the current Serie A title-holder. And a key reason behind his success at Inter was the striker partnership formed by Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.

It remains to be seen what system he implements at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But the door is open for the Italian to recreate something like partnership, with Kane and Son Heung-min.

Getting Kane back in form could be pivotal for Conte.

But in truth, it is incredibly difficult to see the striker’s struggles lasting much longer.
