The future of Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo is arguably the most discussed topic in the Premier League at the moment.

The Portuguese manager is under immense pressure after three consecutive defeats in the league. Spurs have been awful in all three games, especially in the one against Arsenal last weekend.

The Gunners smashed three past Tottenham in about 30 minutes. They could’ve easily scored a few more, but the 3-0 lead at half-time proved to be enough to make it impossible for Spurs to make a comeback.

Nuno claimed in his post-match interview that some of his players didn’t implement his game plan (Sky Sports). A new report from The Athletic has shed some light on what some in the Spurs dressing room felt about his comments.

Tottenham players confused by Nuno’s tactics

Nuno’s post-match comments made its way into the dressing room fairly quickly. The dejected Spurs squad weren’t too sure about their manager’s words, as nobody is reportedly sure of what’s being asked of them.

A dressing room source told The Athletic about Nuno’s tactics: “Nobody is quite sure what is what. It’s unclear how we’re playing. There are no patterns of play.”

Spurs’ first-half performance at Arsenal hinted that the players had no idea what to do. The likes of Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka caused Tottenham all sorts of problems because all three players were given a ton of space in dangerous areas.

That is the biggest reason why Spurs were dominated in that first half last weekend. Nuno’s comments, in a way, put the blame on the players, but if what the dressing room source has said is true, there’s a huge communication gap between the players and the manager.

That is not ideal at all, but in Nuno’s defence, he has only been here for a couple of months. Mauricio Pochettino initially struggled as well, which just shows that if Tottenham stick by their current boss, he could well lead them to success in the coming years.
