It is no secret at this point that Newcastle United are interested in appointing Unai Emery as their new manager.
The Spaniard is currently at the helm at Villarreal in Spain, but reports have suggested that he would be open to a return to England. The Magpies are locked in discussions with Emery, with Amanda Staveley leading the talks.
The Chronicle has given an insight into the ongoing talks between the two parties. Emery is currently in Spain while the new Magpies regime is at Newcastle. Talks have been going on over Zoom calls as a result, where Staveley is selling the club’s new ambitions.
The report claims that Emery started off discussions with a five-word question for Newcastle’s new owners.
Unai Emery asked a five-word question to Newcastle owners
The report reveals that the Zoom call between the two parties took place last week. Stavely and co sold the dream to Emery, but the ex-Arsenal boss had to convince the board that he was the right man for the job as well.
Before he could do that, the report claims that Emery asked Newcastle’s new owners a very simple question – “Why do you want me?”
It is unclear how the owners responded to that question, but a look at Emery’s CV and the incredible work he has done over the years at Valencia, Sevilla and now at Villarreal is probably the reason why.

A look at Emery’s achievements
The Spaniard has won a staggering 10 major trophies over the last seven years.
He won three back-to-back Europa League titles with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016, and he added another to that collection by leading his Villarreal side to victory at the end of last season.
During his time in France with PSG, Emery also won one league title, one French League Cup, two French Cups and two French Super Cups.
He is a winner and Newcastle really would be lucky to have him if they can get the deal over the line in the coming days.
