Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale is set to start for Spurs on Thursday night, according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho brought the summer loan signing off the bench in Tottenham’s Premier League draw with West Ham.

Bale had been working his way back up to fitness following his long-awaited return to North London, impressing coaches and players alike on the training ground.

The Welshman got 18 minutes under his belt against the Hammers on Sunday, a frustrating game for Spurs as they saw a three-goal lead overturned in the latter stages.

Mourinho will now turn his attentions to preparing his team for Thursday’s Europa League opener against LASK, and the Daily Mail claims Bale is “expected” to make his first start for the club.

TBR View:

While Bale showed glimpses of his quality on Sunday, he didn’t quite look fully match fit – no surprise given how long he’s gone without significant game time.

Spurs, meanwhile, have blown hot and cold this season – there have been some superb performances but, as this weekend’s capitulation showed, there’s still a lot of work to do.

All eyes turn to Thursday’s game against last season’s Austrian Bundesliga runners-up and hopefully Spurs will make amends for Sunday’s poor result.
