Report shares Rangers’s Alfredo Morelos demands after Lille bid

Rangers want at least £18.2 million for Alfredo Morelos, with French outlet Foot Mercato reporting that the Gers have rejected an offer involving an initial fee of £13.7 million for the striker.

Rangers fans would be forgiven for fearing that Morelos’s future lies away from Ibrox. RMC Sport reported over the weekend that the Colombian had agreed personal terms ahead of a potential move to Lille.

It was noted that the Ligue 1 side still needed to agree a fee with Steven Gerrard’s men for the forward.

But, while it does appear that Lille have made an offer for the 24-year-old, it would seem that they have some way to go before they reach Rangers’s valuation.

According to Foot Mercato, Lille have seen a bid worth an initial £13.7 million plus a further £1.8 million in add-ons rejected. It is suggested that Rangers want at least £18.2 million for their talisman.

TBR View: Rangers need to prepare for Morelos departure

It would be a surprise if Rangers did not go into every window with a plan in place in case they decide to sell Morelos.

The forward seems to hardly ever be too far away from links with the Ibrox exit. So it would make little sense to not have targets in mind in case their valuation is met.

But the urgency required will arguably increase significantly if Morelos leaves in the coming days. The Gers will have played their first game of the new season by the end of the week, and Gerrard will surely not want to have this situation lingering in the background.

The two clubs are not too far away in their reported valuations. So perhaps the fans will be expecting an agreement to be reached in the near future.

If Morelos decides at any stage that he wants to go – and agreeing personal terms with another club certainly hints that he is ready to leave – then it surely makes sense for Rangers to try and make sure a move gets agreed.

Replacing Morelos is not going to be an easy task. But the Gers would have been aware that it was a task that they were always set to face at some stage.
