Martin Odegaard has instructed his representatives to start negotiating with Real Madrid, according to a report from Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, with Arsenal eyeing a permanent deal for the 22-year-old.

After a mixed start to life on loan at the Emirates, Odegaard appears to have stepped his game up in recent times.

The Norwegian has scored in Arsenal’s last two games, including bagging the equaliser in Sunday’s North London derby win. And it appears that Arsenal are hoping that they can keep him beyond this season.

The Daily Mail reported this week that the Gunners are keen to hold talks with Los Blancos about another loan or a permanent move in the summer.

Interestingly, El Gol Digital has suggested that Odegaard may jump at the chance to extend his stay in North London.

The report claims Odegaard is showing the most interest in staying at Arsenal. In fact, he has apparently told his agents to start working with Madrid in the hope of paving the way towards securing a permanent move.

It is noted that Arsenal could also have a plan B in place. They will reportedly look to agree a loan with an obligation to buy next summer if they cannot sign him permanently this time around.

TBR View: Huge boost for Arsenal if Odegaard wants to stay

It would be fantastic for Arsenal if Odegaard is indeed keen to stay. It would simply be huge if the player has already set the wheels in motion over a potential permanent move.

Madrid may have to consider selling some of their players this summer. They will have their own transfer plans to potentially fund.

So if Odegaard does want a permanent exit, perhaps they may leave the door open for Arsenal to make a move.
