Leeds United have played down any concerns about Jean-Kevin Augustin following the Whites’ under-23 clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Monday, according to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Augustin made his first appearance for the club at Hillsborough after being left out of the first-team squad for their defeat to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The striker started for Carlos Corberan’s men. But it proved to be a fairly frustrating spell on the pitch for the January signing.

He did have one half chance where he forced Joe Wildsmith into a very good save. But he did not see too much of the ball until the latter stages of the half.

Unfortunately for Augustin, he went down just before the break in a moment that would have had every Leeds fan holding their breath.

He attempted to run back on, but the half-time whistle greeted him. And when he did not emerge on the pitch for the second-half, the fans would have been forgiven for being concerned.

But the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Leeds are not worried about the 22-year-old and expected him to train on Tuesday. It is suggested that the plans was always for the forward to play 45 minutes.

TBR View – Massive relief for Leeds

It would be a huge blow for Leeds to lose any first-team player to injury, let alone one of their only strikers.

So it will be a huge relief for the Whites that Augustin is reportedly expected to be fine.

The Frenchman showed a glimpse or two of his quality during the 2-2 draw. And the supporters will be hopeful that he can make a much bigger impact when he gets more service.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had 19 attempts on goal during their 1-0 loss to Wigan on Saturday (via Whoscored).

With that amount of chances, Augustin may be itching to get the opportunity to lead the line and prove that he can help the Whites across the line in the Championship promotion race.
