Julian Nagelsmann is understood to be interested in the Spurs job, but The Times reports that Tottenham Hotspur could have to pay up to £17 million if they hope to appoint the RB Leipzig boss.
It appears that Nagelsmann is a key target following Jose Mourinho’s departure this week. The German is one of the most highly-rated young managers working anywhere in Europe.
Understandably therefore, it does not appear that it is going to be easy for Spurs to get him in as Mourinho’s successor.
The Times reports that Nagelsmann is set to cost up to £17 million. His contract with the Bundesliga side is set to run until 2023.
It is also noted in the report that Bayern Munich’s need to appoint a new boss this summer will not help Spurs’ chances either.
However, there is some positive news for Tottenham fans who want Nagelsmann in. The Times adds that the 33-year-old is understood to be interested in the post.
TBR View: Nagelsmann appointment could be huge step in the right direction for Tottenham
Of course, it is difficult to know what the future holds for Spurs right now. But should the landscape of football remain fairly similar in the coming years, appointing Nagelsmann would be a huge statement.
Nagelsmann is a hugely impressive figure. And bringing him in would evoke memories for many of the moment Mauricio Pochettino arrived.
Obviously, Pochettino’s spell was not rewarded with trophies. But he elevated Tottenham considerably.
Nagelsmann has the potential to be the man to elevate Spurs once again.
