Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Strasbourg midfielder Ibrahima Sissoko.

Apparently Steve Bruce is keen to bolster his midfield in January, and the exciting Frenchman fits the bill.

Sky Sports understand he is available for around £10.5 million, but talks are yet to be held between the player and the Magpies over a potential move.

Newcastle may have interest in Sissoko, but how does he feel about them?

The Chronicle report that sources close to the 21-year-old have described Newcastle as a ‘very interesting club’.

While the player is ‘in no hurry’ to leave Strasbourg, his camp are intrigued by the prospect of a move to the Premier League for their client.

Newcastle may have a battle on their hands, with the report also suggesting there is tentative interest from other English clubs.

TBR’s view – Diame replacement?

Newcastle landing Sissoko could help the club finally replace the departed Mo Diame.

The Senegal international left in the summer and, arguably, the Magpies have missed his power and tenacity in central midfield.

Sissoko is slightly more defensive-minded than Diame, but the 6ft 4in enforcer would still be an exciting acquisition by the club.
