Tottenham Hotspur may have to convince Gareth Southgate into a change of heart if they hope to appoint the England boss – judging by a report from The Telegraph.

They have been linked with a host of names. And it appears that a number of candidates are on their radar – with The Telegraph noting that there is interest in the likes of Erik ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick and Brendan Rodgers.

The Telegraph also suggests that Southgate has his admirers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It is noted that Harry Kane enjoys a close relationship with him at international level.

Many would assume that the European Championships would scupper any hopes Spurs may have of appointing the 50-year-old anytime soon.

But it appears that Southgate may not be interested in switching jobs anytime soon anyway.

The Telegraph reports that Southgate is believed to be keen to stay on and lead England to the 2022 World Cup.

That stance will please the Spurs fans who were underwhelmed by the links with Southgate.

Southgate’s stock has arguably fallen over the last couple of years. And he has not taken charge of a club side since 2009.

Appointing him therefore, would arguably be a huge gamble from Tottenham. So some Spurs supporters may be extremely relieved if he is indeed planning to stay put for the next couple of years.
