Celtic’s seemingly-imminent move for Shane Duffy looks to be even more of a coup for the Hoops than perhaps first thought, with the Daily Record shedding light on the financial agreement between Neil Lennon’s side and Brighton.

The Daily Record reports that Duffy has agreed to join the Bhoys for the coming campaign. He is set to link up with his new teammates upon his return from international duty.

It did appear that Celtic would have to fork out a substantial fee to take Duffy on loan. The Daily Mail were amongst those to report that the Seagulls were demanding £2 million to take the Republic of Ireland international for a year.

However, it appears that Celtic have negotiated a very shrewd deal.

The Daily Record has suggested that the Hoops will pay just £1 million for Duffy, while they are also covering half of his £45,000-a-week wages.

It could be fantastic news for Celtic to agree a much lower fee with Brighton. It would be no surprise if Duffy was not the last player that Lennon wanted to bring in this summer.

So saving £1 million and around £22,500-a-week in wages could make a big difference to their future plans.

Celtic are on the verge of adding an experienced Premier League defender to their ranks. And they have seemingly managed to do it without breaking the bank.
