Everton are now fearing that the season’s stoppage may scupper their chances of signing Gabriel from Lille having previously been confident about completing a £27.5 million move, according to a report from The Independent.
Carlo Ancelotti may have been hoping that he was not far away from securing his first signing at Goodison Park.

The Independent reports that the Toffees had been confident of completing a move for the Brazilian. The report suggested that off-site medical checks had taken place and had been passed.
However, that optimism appears to have evaporated somewhat.

The Independent has suggested that Everton now fear that the 22-year-old could now take his time to make a decision over his future as football remains on hiatus.
The report adds that the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Leicester City also want the youngster. He signed a new contract recently, but is set to leave this summer.
TBR View – Big statement if Everton secure Gabriel signature
Everton may be fearful about missing out on their reported target. But it would also be a big statement if they manage to get a deal across the line.
Moves to PSG or Leicester should also appeal to the Lille man. So it would be a real coup if Ancelotti ensures that Gabriel remains on course to move to Merseyside.
And despite their concerns, they are in a strong position having got the large majority of the deal done.
