David Moyes is happy at West Ham United, but would want assurances over the club’s future before signing a new contract, with the Daily Mail reporting that the squad are keen to see the boss handed fresh terms at the London Stadium.

West Ham have made an encouraging start to the new campaign. It did look set to be another incredibly tough season for the Hammers, with Newcastle winning 2-0 in their opening day meeting.

However, the Irons are now unbeaten in their last four. In that run, they have drawn with Tottenham and Manchester City and thrashed both Wolves and Leicester.

The run comes after Moyes led the club to safety last term. And it appears that the squad would like to see the boss rewarded for the work that he has done.

According to the Daily Mail, the squad want Moyes’s contract to be extended. His current terms expire at the end of the season.

However, it is claimed that the board had initially planned to consider his future no earlier than the start of the new year.

And it is suggested by the Mail that the board want to see further proof that they should be able to avoid a relegation battle before they change their plans and open talks with Moyes.

The Mail adds that Moyes is happy with the Hammers. But he would reportedly like assurances over the direction the club is heading in before committing his future.

TBR View: Too early for Moyes to sign new contract

Moyes deserves credit for the job that he has done at the London Stadium. Nevertheless, you could understand why the Scot and the board seem to have some reservations about agreeing a contract right now.

It is still incredibly early on in the season. So it is still not quite clear what section of the Premier League table West Ham will be battling in.

The early signs are certainly promising however. And it is a huge statement that the senior players reportedly want Moyes’s contract to be extended already.

If their unbeaten run continues much longer, the board will surely have no choice but to bring talks forward. And they may have to be prepared to provide Moyes with the assurances he is looking for.
