Arsenal are developing a growing feeling that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be convinced to stay and sign a new contract at the Emirates, according to the Daily Mirror.

The questions surrounding the striker’s future are arguably providing the biggest cause for concern for Gunners fans, who have had plenty to smile about during Mikel Arteta’s tenure.

The Daily Mirror reports that talks were put on hold during the latter stages of Unai Emery’s tenure due to Aubameyang’s desperation to play in the Champions League.

The Mirror suggests however, that Arsenal are looking to restart discussions as the 30-year-old closes in on the final year of his deal in North London.

Encouragingly, there is a growing feeling that the captain could be convinced to stay, according to the Mirror.

Aubameyang has been an outstanding signing for Arsenal. He has scored 17 Premier League goals this season, having bagged 32 during the previous 18 months.

And it would be a big coup for the Gunners if they could convince him to stay. It would certainly be a big plus for Arteta.

The Spaniard looks to have the club moving in the right direction again. And there are plenty of exciting young players to build the team around in the coming years.

But the team are not ready for Aubameyang to move aside yet. So it remains imperative that they tie him down to a new deal.

And it appears that the signs are more positive than they had been when Emery was at the helm.
