Arsenal fans hoping to see Dominik Szoboszlai arrive during the January transfer window may be set for disappointment, amid a report from The Athletic concerning the 20-year-old’s future.
Szoboszlai has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in Europe right now. He has scored two goals in the Champions League this term. Meanwhile, he also bagged a hat-trick in Salzburg’s latest league win on Saturday.
Unsurprisingly, it would appear that plenty of clubs across the continent want the Hungarian.
The Athletic reports that he is likely to move on in January. It is noted that he has a £22 million release clause in his contract which expires soon.
Arsenal are reportedly amongst those tracking the youngster. However, The Athletic reports that they have concerns about his ball retention.
It is also mentioned that RB Leipzig – who are, of course, linked with Szoboszlai’s current club – are quietly confident of signing him when the window opens.
So it would appear, as things stand, that a move to the Emirates may be unlikely.
The suggestion that Arsenal have concerns about Szoboszlai however, may well frustrate a number of supporters.
He looks to have the potential to be an incredible talent. His energy and technical ability hints that he will be a real steal at anything like his release clause.
RB Leipzig’s presence in the race perhaps means that any other admirer faces a tough task. But it will surely anger many if Arsenal do not make a strong attempt to spring a surprise.
