Matty Longstaff is hoping to leave Newcastle United on loan during the January transfer window, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (27/12; page 56).
Longstaff played the full 90 minutes of Newcastle’s defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. But the Boxing Day loss was the 20-year-old’s first start of the campaign.

Meanwhile, he has only made one top flight appearance from the bench for the Magpies. So it appears that he is now considering a temporary move away from St James’ Park.
The Sun on Sunday (27/12; page 56) reports that the youngster is keen to leave on loan. It is suggested that several sides in the Championship want the midfielder.

The report notes that his admirers are waiting to find out whether he will be available next month.
TBR View: Loan move may be a gamble for Newcastle
It has been a disappointing time for Steve Bruce’s men. They have lost three of their last four in all competitions.
In fairness, Newcastle are still some way off being in trouble. But with games coming thick and fast right now, it is not out of the question for a side to be dragged into the mix.
Loaning out Longstaff therefore, could be deemed a gamble. In the long run, it makes sense to let him go temporarily if he is not going to play regularly.
However, the move will not be reflected upon positively if Newcastle do start to slide down the table. Longstaff has previously shown glimpses of a prospect who could develop into a really exciting player.
And if he impresses during the second-half of the season while the Magpies struggle, Bruce’s decision to not use him more may come in for criticism.
