Report: Serie A club to rival Arsenal for Cengiz Under capture

Arsenal will face competition to sign Roma winger Cengiz Under from Fiorentina this summer, according to Di Marzio.

The Daily Mail reported weeks ago that the Gunners were keen; with AC Milan and Dortmund also monitoring the situation.

Under experienced a vastly underwhelming campaign during 2020/21.

He failed to make his mark on the Premier League, struggling for game time during a loan with Leicester City.

Under scored twice and claimed three assists from just 19 outings, with just nine coming in the way of starts.

His future doesn’t seem overly great at Roma either. Jose Mourinho is keen to make his mark on his new squad and could sacrifice Under.

Roma will allow the Turkey international to leave for just £17.2 million during the summer transfer window.

Despite his struggles that sum doesn’t seem overly untoward for a player with a decent amount of potential.

Leicester did have an option to buy the 23-year-old for £22 million but decided against activating the clause.

Now, Under’s future is back up in the air, although a departure from the Italian outfit looks certain.

Arsenal won’t have European football on their agenda next season. As a result, they will need to remain savvy in the transfer market, spending each penny wisely.

Can Arsenal afford risky Under capture?

This signing wouldn’t be met with a large amount of optimism from an Arsenal perspective.

Under still has plenty to prove and the Gunners will seek tried and tested options largely.

Mikel Arteta will want to beef up his attacking options though and the 30-cap international would bring an abundance of talent.

He is skillful, quick and is capable of beating a man.

The challenge for Under is to get regular game time and then find a level of consistency that can see him kick on.

Under earns £83,000-a-week in Italy and even on those wages that would represent a hefty salary.

Arsenal have to get every deal right this summer. As a result, this could be a race they ought to let Fiorentina win.
