Report: Senior Everton figures furious about Silva’s substitutions

According to a report from The Telegraph, there were some senior Everton figures who were left furious with Marco Silva after the substitutions that he made in the Toffees’ 2-1 defeat at Leicester City on Sunday.

Silva looks to be even closer to the Goodison Park exit after a dramatic loss at the King Power Stadium. Kelechi Iheanacho scored in injury time to hand the Foxes the win after Everton had taken the lead during the first-half.

The Telegraph reports that Silva’s position is set to be discussed today. It is suggested that he may not be given the chance to take charge of the team when they face Liverpool on Wednesday.

Everton produced a good performance for large parts of Sunday’s game. And it looked like they were ready to ease their relegation concerns by taking some points away from high-flying Leicester. However, it was to prove to be a cruel false dawn for Silva.

And it appears that some behind the scenes are ready to place the blame on the manager himself. According to The Telegraph, some senior figures at the club were infuriated by Silva’s decision to take Alex Iwobi and Dominic Calvert-Lewin off for Morgan Schneiderlin and Moise Kean and then change formation when the score was 1-1.

TBR View – Merseyside derby could be perfect fixture for Silva

The Merseyside derby could, oddly, prove to be a perfect fixture for Silva – if he remains in charge. At the moment, you could understand if Everton fans feel that his departure is simply inevitable.

On paper, the Toffees have little chance of springing an upset. And it may prove to be the game that seals the Portuguese’s fate. But as his exit already seems inevitable, that may take some of the pressure off.

On the other hand, no single win could buy him more time than a victory against Liverpool.

It may prove to be the game that provides a definitive conclusion to Silva’s tenure. But he needs to hold out hope that his side can get the most unlikely result to spark what currently seems the most unlikely turnaround.
