Italian outlet CalcioMercato have claimed that Newcastle United have seen a mammoth £50million offer to sign Lazio striker Ciro Immobile rejected by the Italian club.
Immobile has been in stunning form for Lazio this season. The 30-year-old has found the back of the net 30 times in just 33 appearances, while also laying on seven assists. The 39-time Italy cap has three years left on his contract.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport have claimed that Newcastle had tabled a mammoth £50million bid to sign former Dortmund and Torino ace Immobile – in a deal that could be worth a whopping £120million in total.
Indeed, Newcastle were willing to offer Immobile £270,000 a week – or £14million a season – until 2025. Equating to £70million in wages, the total sum of the transfer would have cost an enormous £120million.
A signal of intent from Newcastle potential new owners, if indeed such an offer was true. However, CalcioMercato have now reported that Lazio have rejected the offer – with the second-placed Serie A side refusing to listen to offers.

TBR’s view – Newcastle need a big-name striker signing
Enthusiasm at Newcastle hit a new-time low last season when Mike Ashley remained as owner and Rafa Benitez was allowed to leave the club. Steve Bruce has done an excellent job under the circumstances.
But until Ashley leaves his post as the club’s owner, fans will be disenchanted with the club. If a takeover takes place, it will certainly redeliver some optimism – and so will signing a big-name striker.
Immobile would have been perfect, but Lazio’s stance means Newcastle will have to look elsewhere.
