According to a report from The Telegraph, Fabian Schar has been working to try and help convince Granit Xhaka about a potential move to Newcastle United, with the Arsenal midfielder one of Steve Bruce’s targets for January.
Xhaka’s future with the Gunners looks to be up in the air. He is no longer the captain after the events that played out as he left the pitch during the draw with Crystal Palace last month.
The Telegraph reports that the 27-year-old wants to leave the Emirates. He is attracting attention from both AC Milan and the Magpies.
The Telegraph suggests that Bruce is keen to bring the Swiss to Tyneside on loan, and has been led to believe that Xhaka would be open to considering a move to St James’ Park.
That may perhaps be partially be down to Schar. The Telegraph reports that Xhaka’s international teammate has been telling the Arsenal man good things about the city and the club.
Signing Xhaka could be a real gamble for Newcastle. Even when his form has been good, many Arsenal fans have had their concerns about his reliability. And Bruce’s men look set to go into January in a much more precarious situation than the Gunners.
He may feel that he has a major point to prove. And that may help Xhaka silence most of his critics. But it would definitely be a roll of the dice for the Magpies.
Schar, for one, clearly feels that it is a roll that Newcastle simply have to make.
