Schalke may not be able to sign Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny permanently – because his performances have alerted teams in England.
According to Der Western, the Bundesliga outfit face a real test to sign the right-back at the end of his loan and could be priced out of a permanent deal.
Apparently Kenny has been a top performer this season, with Der Western describing him as ‘indispensable’.
His high levels have supposedly alerted teams backs in England, and Schalke’s chances of retaining the 22-year-old have been deemed ‘almost impossible’.
Kenny is currently valued around €12 million/£10 million, but should he continue performing well that price tag will rise.
There is no word in the report about Everton’s stance on the player, but with loan star Djibril Sidibe impressing at Goodison Park, a permanent exit may not be out of the question.
TBR’s view – Everton mustn’t be hasty over Kenny
Everton must watch Kenny especially closely over the new few months to see if he can have an impact from them next season.
Sidibe has looked a great signing, and the Toffees are surely likely to sign the Frenchman permanently.
Kenny could therefore be compared against Seamus Coleman, who has undoubtedly struggled in the aftermath of his horror leg break in March 2017.
Although still relatively dependably, the Republic of Ireland international isn’t the same player these days and Kenny could be seen as his potential long-term replacement and competition for Sidibe.
