Report: Schalke desperate to complete transfer of Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac
Despite their relegation to the second tier of German football, Schalke are desperate to sign Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac on a permanent transfer this summer.
According to Sport1, the Royal Blues are in a ‘hurry’ to complete a move for the Gunners defender, who spent time on-loan with the side this season.
The reason for retaining the left-back, and Jan-Klass Huntelaar, is due to experience, allowing him to act as a leader and a role model in the dressing room.
‘Final talks’ will be held with both players later this week as the Bundesliga 2 side look to gain clarity and avoid dragging out the move.
Whilst the Dutchman is a free agent, Kolasinac’s situation proves far more complex with the Bosnian possessing a high-value contract with the Emirates Stadium giants.
Reports from back in February claimed that the German outfit’s ability to sign the fullback depended on whether they were relegated from the top-flight, going against the recent update.
Easy money: Desperate attempt from Schalke over Kolasinac can help raise funds
Arsenal’s current plight means there is always room to sell players in order to raise money for incomings.
Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen in a raft of different positions, making funds are crucial. Right-back, central midfield, attacking midfield and centre-forward have all been earmarked as places where reinforcements are needed.
His departure left Arsenal without a backup left-back which almost certainly spelt the end of his time in N5.
The ace failed to make the impact hoped after his inclusion in the Bundesliga team of the season for 2016/2017.
The desperate Schalke attempt at completing a transfer for Kolasinac means Arsenal can sell to raise funds. It’ll help the Gunners in their attempts to undertake a squad overhaul after a disappointing league season.
