Report: Ryan Sessegnon wants Tottenham move but Mauricio Pochettino remains patient

Ryan Sessegnon is valued at £40m by Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon but Mauricio Pochettino is in no hurry to get this deal over the line, according to Sky Sports News.

Sessegnon reportedly wants to complete a move to Tottenham but the two clubs are still haggling over his fee. Fulham want £40m for Sessegnon while Tottenham want him for less.

The England U21 starlet is still Tottenham’s first-choice left-back target this summer, especially if Danny Rose leaves. Ben Davies has signed a new contract until 2024 but Rose could be on his way out of North London.

Sessegnon is seen as the long-term replacement for Rose and he can also play further up the field. Last season, the 19-year-old scored two Premier League goals and provided six assists.

But he could not prevent Fulham from suffering relegation to the Championship. Instead of staying with the Cottagers like Aleksandr Mitrovic and Tom Cairney, Sessegnon is eager to move on with Spurs his preferred destination.

However, the talented teenager might be forced to wait to complete this move. Tottenham are not rushing into this signing and it could happen later this summer instead.

Ryan Sessegnon: Ideal Danny Rose replacement?

There is much debate over Sessegnon’s best position. He broke into the Fulham team as a left-back but his attacking performances have earned him a role as a winger.

Sessegnon is a goalscorer so perhaps he might be wasted at left-back. But in this Spurs team, he is likely to do more attacking than defending, which could suit his style of play.

In the long-term, Sessegnon might have to specialise in a certain position. But for now, Spurs should see him as both; he can provide cover for Davies and for the attacking midfielders.
