Report rubbishes claims suggesting Wolves want Ezri Konsa and Edson Alvarez

According to the local media, reports linking Wolverhampton Wanderers with two defenders are wide of the mark. Wolves are not interested in Brentford starlet Ezri Konsa or America defender Edson Alvarez, according to The Express and Star.

Over the weekend, rumours suggesting Konsa is on his way to Molineux picked up. According to The Times, Wolves were on the verge of sealing a £12m deal for the 21-year-old defender.

Konsa enjoyed an impressive season for Brentford in the Championship after joining from Charlton Athletic. The England youth international played 47 games for the Bees, adding to his 86 appearances for Charlton.

Back in November, Arsenal were linked with a £15m move for Konsa (The Sun). So Wolves’ reported £12m business was looking shrewd. But this deal is unlikely now; Nuno Espirito Santo is not targeting Konsa.

Similarly, Alvarez is not a target at this stage. The 23-cap Mexico international is currently playing in his home country for America, where he has racked up over 100 senior appearances.

The 21-year-old is ready for a new challenge away from the Mexican top-flight. And he could have joined Raul Jimenez at Wolves. But these reports are not accurate, according to the Express and Star.

Wolves still need a centre-back

Centre-back must be Wolves’ priority this summer. Nuno knows that he needs at least one more central defender through the door, especially with European football to consider.

Konsa and Alvarez would have been two exciting additions. Both players are young and comfortable on the ball, which fits Nuno’s mould. But it seems he is looking elsewhere for his targets.
