Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport have claimed that AS Roma have compiled a four-man shortlist to fill the sporting director void at the club, and Leeds United’s Victor Orta is one of those four names.
Orta joined Leeds in the summer of 2017, the same summer that Leeds appointed Thomas Christiansen as manager. The former Middlesbrough chief got off to a tricky start, with numerous signings that completely flopped at Elland Road.
The likes of Laurens De Bock, Yosuke Ideguchi, Pawel Cibicki, Ouasim Buoy and plenty more were brought in by Orta only to flop at Elland Road despite big transfer fees. But it was Orta’s idea to bring Marcelo Bielsa to the club.
Some of his signings since have shone. Mateusz Klich, Illan Meslier, Jack Harrison and even Patrick Bamford have been bought for small fees, but are already shining in top-tier football. That has not gone unnoticed by Roma.
The report claims Roma have added Orta to a four-man shortlist, along with Ralf Rangnick – who last worked for RB Leipzig in 2019. Ex-Monaco and Chelsea man Michael Emenalo and Portuguese wizard Luis Campos are also being considered.

TBR’s view – Leeds need to keep Orta for as long as possible
Despite a poor start as aforementioned, Orta has proved to be a crucial cog in the Leeds works. His efforts in the window, combined with his passion that is shown from the stands or on the Amazon documentary, has made him a Leeds favourite.
Keeping Orta is crucial. He is one of the senior members of the Leeds family and played an enormous part in their promotion to the Premier League. He has brought in Raphinha, Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Robin Koch. He must be kept at Leeds.
