Tottenham Hotspur will have to see off competition from Roma if they hope to sign Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.
Vestergaard has been linked with a move to North London for a little while. And the Daily Express reported last week that they were planning to step up their interest, with Southampton set to demand £18 million.

Tuttomercatoweb has also suggested that Jose Mourinho wants the Dane at Spurs. But they also report that Roma are monitoring the 28-year-old.
Like Tottenham, the Giallorossi sit seventh in their league this season. And no team in Serie A’s top eight have conceded more goals than Paulo Fonseca’s men.

Spurs’ defensive record remains one of the better ones in the Premier League. However, Mourinho has been unable to settle on a first-choice centre-back pairing throughout the campaign.
They have also conceded five goals across their last two games. The likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have come in for a lot of criticism this season.
Whether Vestergaard is the answer however, is doubtful. The centre-back has been superb for much of this season for Southampton.
But it took him a long time to get to that stage. And his form has not been flawless for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
For £18 million, he could be a shrewd signing. But on his own, he is unlikely to address all of Tottenham’s defensive woes.
