Report: Roma stalling on deal for Granit Xhaka; Arsenal's valuation holding deal up
Arsenal are reportedly digging their heels when it comes to selling Granit Xhaka to Roma, with Edu unwilling to budge on the asking-price.
Reports last week claimed that Arsenal will not accept anything less than £17.5m for the Swiss star. That is said to be above what Roma initially thought they’d get Xhaka for. The Italians were hoping to pay close to the £15m mark at a maximum.
And now Sky Italy have said that no deal is close for Xhaka at the moment due to the distance in valuations. Speaking on transfer updates, reporters for Sky Italy said no deal is currently close for Xhaka.
Roma are unwilling to pay what Arsenal want. In turn, that has led to something of a stalemat in the negotiation process.
The Swiss midfielder enjoyed a good Euros with his country. He is also thought to be keen on a move to Italy. However, the Gunners are trying fund their own summer rebuild, so are looking for the best value possible for their players.
Xhaka was key at times last season. Indeed, Mikel Arteta lauded his leadership qualities as ‘phenomenal’ back in January.
This is like a game of chess this one. Roma know Arsenal needs to sell, while the Gunners know what they value Xhaka at.
This is heading in the direction of a transfer that is sorted later down the line with minor details ironed out. Xhaka will probably end up at Roma, but Arsenal are simply playing hard-ball over the £100k-a-week star.
You can’t blame Edu in fairness. He wants as much in the coffers as possible and with Xhaka enjoying a good summer, his value went up a bit.
