Report: Roma interested in Arsenal striker Lacazette
AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.
What’s the story?
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Gunners frontman is an alternative target to replace Edin Dzeko.
The Bosnian is close to sealing a move to Internazionale, who are selling Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.
However, despite the Serie A outfit’s interest in the 30-year-old, there are two things allegedly stopping the move.
Firstly, Lacazette only wants to join a club in the Champions League. Roma will be competing in the Europa Conference League after finishing seventh in Serie A.
The second reason is the poor relationship between the Londoners and Roma. Granit Xhaka was subject to interest from the Rome-based club before a move collapsed.
Pep Guardiola said Lacazette has ‘lots of quality‘ back in 2019.
Selling Lacazette is paramount for Arsenal
Since joining the club in 2017, the centre-forward has failed to score more than 20 goals in all competitions.
It really highlights his underwhelming level of performance for the Gunners.
As a result, selling Lacazette is paramount for Arsenal amid the reported interest from Roma.
Replacing the France international is key this summer, however, it is only possible if he leaves.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Folarin Balogun and the ex-Lyon ace in the squad, there is no room for another number nine.
The only way Mikel Arteta would be able to add another striker is if one left. With one year left on his Arsenal contract, Lacazette is the most obvious choice, making his exit this summer very important.
