Report: Roma interested in Antonio Conte if Mourinho takes Portugal job

Roma would be interested in Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte should Jose Mourinho decide to leave his post to take over the Portugal national team, according to a report from Roma Giallorossa.

It appears that Fernando Santos’ future with the Euro 2016 winners is far from certain. The report claims that Santos is likely to be replaced. And the man at the top of their wishlist is Mourinho.

The Special One has been earmarked for the post at the end of the season.

Roma interested in Conte if Mourinho leaves

Roma Giallorossa reports that Mourinho’s focus is currently only on Roma. But it would appear that the Serie A side are making plans in case he does decide to succeed Santos.

Roma want to hand Mourinho a new contract. But should he walk away, the owners’ dream is to bring Conte back to Italy. It is noted that he is currently tied down to Tottenham until 2023.

Spurs however, do have the option to extend those terms further, according to Football London. So it does appear that Tottenham are in a strong position.

But the links with Roma do highlight that there may be complications before Conte commits his long-term future to Tottenham.

Spurs fans will certainly hope that Conte is not tempted by the chance to take the Roma post. Based on the current league tables, joining the Giallorossi would be a sideways step at best.

Obviously, Conte may prefer to move back to Italy at some point. And Roma is a club with potential. But Tottenham could be building something extremely impressive.

It would be a big blow for Tottenham to lose Conte. He is an ‘incredible‘ manager, who has been described as a ‘master‘. So Spurs fans will be a little more relieved should Mourinho stay in the Italian capital beyond next summer.
