According to reports in Italy today, Roma are once again keen on signing Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka, during the January transfer window.
The Roma giants are looking at bringing in a new midfielder in January as Jose Mourinho seeks additions. The Italian side tried to bring Xhaka in during the summer. However, Arsenal ended up giving the Swiss star a new contract, before his season was halted by a serious injury.

However, Corriere dello Sport claims that Mourinho and Roma are now back in the mix to sign Xhaka. It’s suggested the Gunners star remains on Roma’s radar, who are keeping eyes on how his recovery goes.
As has been the norm for Mourinho at clubs in recent years, things are threatening to turn sour for the ex-Chelsea and Man United boss.
The Portuguese boss, though, is being backed for now. However, he wants to bring in new players in January, with Xhaka still firmly on his shopping list.
Arsenal midfielder, Nicolas Pepe, is also wanted in Italy, with reports claiming AC Milan could pay £25m for the Ivorian.
TBR’s View: Xhaka to Roma surely off for this season at least?
It would take something quite big for Arsenal to allow Granit Xhaka to leave in January. Without the Gunners bringing in new faces or a big name in midfielder, Mikel Arteta would be taking a big risk in allowing him to go.
Xhaka is certainly a good presence in the Arsenal midfield. Of course, Albert Lokonga and Thomas Partey are doing well. But with the likes of Mo Elneny set to leave the club, letting Xhaka move on would be an odd one.
If this deal was going to get done, then the summer was the time. Xhaka’s fresh contract means Arsenal now hold all the cards. Further, his injury has complicated things even further for Roma.
Ultimately, this would be a huge surprise if it happened in January.
