Spurs could face missing out on another defensive target, this time in the form of Nikola Maksimovic, who could be set for a switch to Roma or Inter Milan.
That is according to Italian outlet, Forza Roma, who claim Maksimovic’s agent has already held talks with Inter and Roma ahead of a summer move in which the player will earn around £3m a season.
Forza Roma also state that two other top European clubs are in the mix to land Maksimovic. One of those, of course, could be Spurs, who reportedly came close to doing a deal for the Napoli defender back in January.

Maksimovic, 29, is out of contract this summer so it’s easy to see why there is something of a scramble for his signature. A free agent defender who is proven at the top level, the Serbian was always going to attract attention.
Spurs, meanwhile, are expected to be active in the summer in the market. And while Maksimovic would appear to be staying in Italy, you cannot rule out Jose Mourinho getting his man just yet.
TBR View: On a free, Maksimovic would be great for Spurs
Despite his age, Maksimovic would be a fine signing on a free transfer you feel. It’s probably why Roma and Inter are so keen to sign him, because there is big value to be had here.
Spurs would do well to push the boat out in all honesty here. Given the current financial climate, a top defender on a free is attractive, so if Maksimovic does slip the net, it would be a big shame for Mourinho.
