Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to raid Celtic for £15 million-rated defender Kristoffer Ajer.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, the former Parkhead boss is looking for a replacement for Harry Maguire, who is Manchester United-bound for a reported £80 million (BBC Sport) – which would be a world-record fee for a defender.
With the transfer window closing on Thursday, time is of the essence for the Foxes. Although he would like Ajer, the Northern Irishman would be happy to head into the 2019/20 season with his current options of Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu, Filip Benkovic and captain Wes Morgan.
Ajer, who is a fans’ favourite at Parkhead, is also apparently a target for AC Milan.
Ajer is a huge player for Celtic now, and really should not be considered for a sale – despite the cash that Leicester will have to flash from the Maguire sale.
The colossal Norway international has the potential to become a future Bhoys captain.
Arguably, he’s the best centre-half at the club since Virgil van Dijk.
Luckily for the fans, Neil Lennon has expressed his desire (Daily Record) to keep the 21-year-old and with Rodgers having blocked a return to Celtic for Benkovic, the former Liverpool boss should have his work cut out over Ajer.
