Report: Reiss Nelson prefers Bundesliga over Championship loan, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim keen

Reiss Nelson prefers a loan move abroad this month, despite apparent interest from the Championship. That is according to a report from CBS Sports, who suggest Nelson is ready to head back to Germany, where he previously spent time on loan at Hoffenheim.

The report claims his former German loan destination are again interested in his services whilst VfL Wolfsburg could also take him to the Bundesliga.

Nelson is said to have rejected a move to Leeds United last season as he did not want to drop into the second-tier and that still appears to be his second choice option.

However, the report makes it clear that as of now, there is no imminent deal to take Nelson anywhere before the window shuts. With a move to Germany bringing with it extra red tape at present, it seems Nelson might end up stuck at Arsenal.

Martin Odegaard’s arrival and Gabriel Martinelli’s return to fitness has seen Nelson drop further down the pecking order at The Emirates. In the summer, he turned down the chance to head out on loan.

However, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted this week that a loan deal might be on the cards for the 21-year-old.

“That’s a conversation that we are having with the players that are not having a lot of time,” Arteta said, as quoted by the official Arsenal website.

“Obviously we want to keep their development going and we will make decision in the next three days with some of them on what the best thing is to do. We try to be clear and transparent with what the plans are and their roles in the team. And after that, we decide on the best thing for the players and the club.”

It seems a race against time might be ensuing for Arsenal to secure a loan exit for Nelson, who could undoubtedly thrive in the Championship or Bundesliga environment.
