Everton are reportedly “confident” of securing a deal to sign Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez this summer.

According to talkSPORT, La Liga giants Real Madrid are looking to offload the 29-year-old and he is unwanted by their manager Zinedine Zidane.

It is understood that the attacking midfielder is booked in to have a medical early next week ahead of a switch to Goodison Park and it would be his first experience of Premier League football if he does move.

The report explains that Everton are trying to sign the Colombia international on a permanent basis, but there is a possibility of him joining on loan.

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti previously worked alongside Rodriguez and there could now be a reunion on Merseyside.

The left-footer is a versatile attacker that can either play in the number 10 role or out wide and it looks like he needs a fresh start to try reignite his career after the last couple of years that have been plagued by injuries.

TBR’s View:

Everton already have one of the most respected managers in the business at their helm right now in Ancelotti and he should have a pulling power to attract quality players, something that Rodriguez certainly is on his day.

The South American is a creative playmaker that scored 15 goals and supplied 20 assists in 67 games out on loan at Bayern Munich, while for Madrid he’s shown some real flashes of brilliance since he joined them back in 2014.

There would certainly be a risk for Everton in bringing Rodriguez to English football, but certainly one worth taking and he’s the kind of addition they need to try compete for the European spots.
