Report: Real Madrid will let Arsenal sign Martin Odegaard but only in a swap deal

The Daily Mail are claiming that Real Madrid would consider letting Martin Odegaard join Arsenal this summer – on one condition.

Los Blancos are looking to take advantage of Arsenal’s interest in the Norway captain by asking for Emile Smith Rowe in exchange.

Earlier today, Aston Villa had a bid rejected for the Hale End graduate who hasn’t signed a contract extension.

His current deal runs until 2023 and the Gunners have no designs on letting him leave the Emirates Stadium.

What To Expect From England At Euro 2020?!

Odegaard could earn a reprieve at Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti now in the dugout.

It seems as though they could now be prepared to use the 22-year-old as a bartering chip to land Smith Rowe.

Odegaard made 20 appearances for the Gunners last season. He found the net twice, including in the North London derby and registered two assists.

Some reports have claimed that the Norway international was Arsenal’s number one target this summer.

It does seem highly unlikely that they’ll want to lose Smith Rowe in order to sign him, however.

Arsenal will want to focus all their energy on strengthening their ranks ahead of next season.

Losing Smith Rowe wouldn’t be a great start to the window and fans would be disgruntled.

What they’d have to weigh up is who they believe has the most potential out of Smith Rowe and Odegaard if push comes to shove.

At this stage a swap does seem unlikely, although it does provide the Gunners with some food for thought.

Intriguing offer for Arsenal to ponder

We might be about to see just how desperate Arsenal are to sign their number one target Odegaard.

Arteta has spoken fondly on Smith Rowe previously and used him an awful lot during the second half of last season.

Now is crunch time though. With Smith Rowe’s contract up in two years, perhaps Arteta will see this as an opportunity to land his preferred No.10.

Only time will tell but this could prove an exciting time of things for Arsenal – and an intriguing one to follow.
