Arsenal could be forced to look elsewhere this summer for a new creative midfielder, with Marca claiming Martin Odegaard will be wanted back in Madrid.
The Gunners have been seeing glimpses of some of the best form of Odegaard in recent weeks. After joining on loan in January, the Norwegian midfielder has started to be given opportunites by Mikel Arteta.
Hope among some at Arsenal is that Odegaard’s loan deal can be made a permanent one. Especially, if the talented midfielder does indeed continue to impress.
But Marca’s latest claim will be a bitter blow to the Gunners. They state that Madrid simply see Arsenal as a way to get Odegaard back to his best, and they’ve been encouraged by what they’ve seen so far.
That could well mean Arsenal, Edu, and Arteta could be forced to look in other places this summer. Odegaard is, after all, still Madrid’s player and they’ve yet to see anything like his best in Spain as yet.
TBR View: Odegaard looking the part so this is a blow to Arsenal
Odegaard has begun to look well for the Gunners of late. He’s good in possession, suits their style, and is clearly a very talented footballer with a lot to offer.
Madrid’s latest stance, then, is a massive blow for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. Given he’s already settled in, he’d be the perfect summer signing really.
Other targets will of course be out there for the Gunners. However, you get the feeling this will be a big blow if indeed Odegaard does head back to the Spanish capital.
