Champions League giants Real Madrid are reportedly planning a move for Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

According to Marca, Madrid want to reinforce their midfield options after a difficult start to the season in Spain and have eyes on the Spurs playmaker.

It is understood that the 27-year-old will not renew a new deal with Spurs and his current contract expires in the summer, meaning a deal could be in everyone’s interest.

The report explains that the Denmark international is the most likely player that Madrid could snatch up in January, but Ajax’s Donny van de Beek is another on their radar that will be chased.

The Mirror previously reported that Madrid wanted to sign Eriksen to sign a pre-contract agreement in January that would see him arrive next summer.

But the latest update suggests they feel they need him at the Bernabeu sooner and that he could improve them this season.

TBR’s View:

Eriksen’s future certainly looks to be away from Spurs and it may make sense to cash in on him in January if Madrid come knocking.

The attacking midfielder has been a brilliant player at the North London club, but his contract is in its final year and it would take a huge turnaround for him to stay.

He has just one goal and one assists in 10 games across all competitions so far this season, with his performances suggesting that he already has one foot out the door.

It would be a big weight off the shoulders of manager Mauricio Pochettino if Eriksen’s future can be resolved in the next few months and they can look forward.
