Real Madrid have identified Liverpool forward Sadio Mane as their number one summer transfer target, according to The Mirror.
It is claimed that Los Blancos have informed Liverpool of their desire to add the 27-year-old to their ranks.
Mane has been instrumental during Liverpool’s dominant 2019/20 campaign, scoring 18 goals and registering 12 assists in 38 appearances.
The Reds will not want to lose one of their prized assets but Real Madrid are of the belief that a bid of around £140 million could give the Premier League outfit something to think about.
Real Madrid are trailing Manchester City 2-1 in their Champions League last 16 tie but they are currently top of La Liga.
Boss Zinedine Zidane is keen to take his squad to the next level during the summer and he clearly feels Mane can do that.
TBR View – Liverpool need additions but not at the expense of Mane
The last month will have told boss Jurgen Klopp a lot about his squad, particularly the defeats to Chelsea in the FA Cup and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
It will have sounded out to the manager that some of his squad players have quite simply had their day and in the summer his squad should be addressed.
Liverpool’s eleven is excellent and some of the academy players coming through have been a breath of fresh air.
New additions such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz would certainly help bolster the squad, but they shouldn’t be signed at the expense of a high-profile departure.
Mane is vitally important to Liverpool and his work rate is key to Klopp’s style of play.
When a club the size of Real Madrid comes calling it may turn heads but Liverpool must do all they can to hang onto Mane.
