Real Madrid are among a cluster of European clubs who are keeping tabs on Manchester City winger, Riyad Mahrez, according to The Telegraph.
The report, which details Mahrez’s rise to being one of City’s top players, makes note of the fact the Algerian is set to be out of contract in a couple of seasons. City, then, face a decision on whether to offer him fresh terms.
City have already come to terms with Sergio Aguero last week. The Argentinian striker is set to leave the club after winning what will be five titles during his spell in Manchester.
Mahrez, who is now 30, could find himself in a similar boat in a few seasons if no contract is agreed. However, a move to Madrid may also appeal, while the report mentions other clubs on the continent are also keen.
TBR View: Mahrez is world class but are City preparing to move on?
We’ve already seen the likes of Kompany, Silva, and now Aguero go, so does this mean City are keen to progress without too many over 30s in their ranks?
Fernandinho seems to be an exception to the rule but the club does seem to have no issue in moving players on and finding fresh blood.
Mahrez has been superb since signing and is a class act. But if Madrid are willing to pay a decent sum, then City could well consider cashing in rather than offering a new deal.
